About Australian Patience

Australian Patience brings a unique twist to classic single-player card games by blending the familiar setup of Klondike with the fluid movement rules of Yukon. You start with seven tableau columns of four face-up cards each, and your ultimate goal is to build all four foundation piles from Ace up to King by suit.

What sets this variant apart is the freedom it gives you to move any face-up card, along with all the cards resting on top of it, regardless of their sequence. However, this flexibility is balanced by strict building rules: you can only stack cards descending in the exact same suit, and the remaining deck only allows a single pass through the stock pile. It is a tough challenge that demands careful planning for every single move.

Controls

  • Click and Drag: Move a card or a stack of cards to a new valid position
  • Click: Draw a new card from the stock pile

Tips

  • Look before you draw: With no redeals allowed, every card drawn from the stock pile is a permanent commitment. Exhaust all possible tableau moves before turning over a new card.
  • Prioritize empty columns: Only a King can be placed into an empty space. Try to clear out columns to give your Kings a place to go, which frees up the cards trapped beneath them.
  • Build long suited sequences: Since you must build down by the same suit, try to assemble the longest possible unbroken chains. This keeps the board organized and makes it easier to shift large stacks around when needed.

Australian Patience FAQ

How do tableau movements work?
You can move any face-up card along with all the cards stacked on top of it, but it must be placed onto a card of the exact same suit and one rank higher.
Can I draw from the deck multiple times?
No, you only get one pass through the stock deck. Once a card is drawn, it must be played, and there are no redeals when the deck runs out.
What goes into an empty column?
If you manage to clear an entire column, you can only move a King, or a stack of cards starting with a King, into that empty space.
