Jr Chess Game

Jr Chess is a beginner-friendly take on chess, built for anyone who wants to learn the game rather than already know it. You click a piece and the board lights up with every square it can legally move to, so you're never guessing at how a knight jumps or whether a pawn can really take that diagonal square. The rules reveal themselves as you play instead of being dumped on you all at once.

A match plays out at your own pace against the computer: plan a move, see your options highlighted, commit, and watch the opponent respond. The difficulty adjusts as you improve, so a session can be a slow first look at how pieces move or a genuine tactical battle once the basics have sunk in. The goal is the same as always — corner the opposing king — but the move-preview system means the path there is a lot less intimidating.

Controls

Mouse only: click a piece to select it, then click a highlighted square to move it there.

Tips

• Use the highlighted squares to check a move is safe before you commit to it — it's the fastest way to learn how each piece actually threatens the board.
• Protect your king early rather than chasing captures; a piece up means little if you're checkmated a few moves later.
• Look one move ahead: after you move, ask what your opponent's best reply is before you click.

Good for a first real introduction to chess, or as a low-pressure way to sharpen the fundamentals before playing against people.
