About Water Color Sort

Water Color Sort is a puzzle game that asks you to untangle a messy stack of liquids. You start with several glass vials, each filled with random stripes of bright color, plus one or two empty tubes. The goal is to pour the liquids back and forth until every vial contains exactly one solid color.

It is a game about order and sequencing. You can only pour a layer of water onto another layer of the same color, and only if there's enough room in the destination tube. What starts as a simple sorting exercise quickly turns into a traffic jam of colors, forcing you to plan your moves several steps ahead to avoid locking yourself out of a solution.

Controls

  • Select/Pour: Left click or tap a tube to select its top color, then click another tube to pour it.

Tips

  • Keep an empty tube in reserve: Your empty vials are your only real maneuvering space. Try not to fill them unless it helps you consolidate a color entirely or frees up another tube.
  • Look for large blocks: If a vial has three layers of the same color at the bottom, prioritizing the removal of its top layer is often a good start.
  • Work backwards: When stuck, look at the colors you have the most of and trace backwards to see which layers need to be moved to free them.

Water Color Sort FAQ

What happens if I get completely stuck?
You can use the restart button to begin the level again from scratch. It is often faster to restart than to try undoing a long sequence of bad moves.
Can I pour any color into an empty tube?
Yes, an empty tube will accept any color, making it your most flexible tool for clearing space and organizing layers.
Why can't I pour into a tube?
You can only pour if the destination tube is either completely empty, or its top layer matches the color you are pouring and it has enough empty space left.
