Apple Knight drops you into a pixel-art fantasy kingdom overrun by wizards, skeletons and roaming monsters, and hands you a sword, a stack of throwable apples and a knight who dashes as fast as they swing. Each level is a short, hand-built platforming gauntlet: jump between ledges, bait enemies into spike traps instead of trading blows with them, and clear a path to whatever's guarding the exit.
What keeps runs interesting is the loadout underneath the swordplay. Gold dropped by enemies buys upgrades for your armor, pets, weapons and spells, so a level that felt brutal on your first attempt gets noticeably more manageable once you've spent a run or two building up your gear. Difficulty settings let you dial the challenge to match how far you've upgraded, rather than forcing one fixed pace on everyone.
Controls
- Move: WASD or Arrow Keys
- Jump: Z, J, or Spacebar
- Attack: X, K, or Ctrl
- Dash: V, Semicolon, or Alt
- Throw apple: C, L, or Shift
Tips
- Lure enemies over traps instead of fighting them head-on — it saves health and lets you skip fights you're not geared for yet.
- Spend gold on upgrades as soon as you can afford them; the jump in survivability between an unupgraded and upgraded knight is significant.
- If a level feels too hard, drop the difficulty a notch rather than grinding the same section repeatedly — you can always raise it again once you're better equipped.
It suits players who like short platforming sessions with a light RPG hook — something you can dip into for a few levels and feel your character noticeably improve.
