Jetpack Joyride is the definitive one-button endless runner. You play as Barry Steakfries, a disgruntled salesman who busts into a secret laboratory and steals an experimental, machine-gun-powered jetpack. From the moment you strap it on, the screen starts scrolling and doesn't stop until you crash. Your goal is simply to survive as long as possible, flying past scattering scientists and threading the needle between deadly hazards.
The genius of the game lies in its physics. Holding the button fires the jetpack's machine gun downward, propelling Barry into the air, while releasing it lets him drop. You have to constantly manage your altitude to weave through electric zappers, dodge heat-seeking missiles, and grab spinning vehicle tokens that briefly transform you into things like a mechanical dragon or a teleporting box.
Controls
- Click or Spacebar: Hold to fire the jetpack and ascend.
- Release: Stop firing to drop.
Tips for Survival
- Tap, don't hold: Rapid tapping gives you much finer control over Barry's altitude than holding the button, especially when navigating tight clusters of zappers.
- Stay near the bottom: It is usually safer to coast near the floor so you have maximum time to react to incoming missiles and lasers.
- Learn the vehicles: Every vehicle handles completely differently. The Crazy Freaking Teleporter requires you to tap precisely when the reticle lines up with a safe spot, while the Profit Bird needs frantic tapping to maintain height.
