Spades Game

Spades brings the classic trick-taking card game straight to your browser, pitting you and an AI partner against two opponents in a race to 500 points. At the start of each round, you assess your hand of thirteen cards and bid on exactly how many tricks you expect to win. Overbid, and you fall short; underbid, and you pick up penalty "bags" that can cost you heavily later on. Because spades are the permanent trump suit, even a seemingly weak hand can turn the tide if played strategically.

A typical match demands close attention to what has already been played. You need to watch out for your partner's lead, cover their weaknesses, and force opponents to waste their high cards. It's a balancing act between aggressively taking tricks when you have the advantage and holding back to avoid unwanted bags.

Tips

• Watch your bags: Accumulating 10 bags costs you 100 points. Sometimes it is smarter to let an opponent win a trick than to take an extra one you didn't bid for.
• Count the spades: There are only 13 spades in the deck. Keep track of how many have been played so you know when it's safe to lead a high off-suit card.
• Support your partner: If your partner bids high, assume they have a strong hand and try not to steal their tricks unless absolutely necessary.
