Shortcut Race is a fast-paced hypercasual running game where players race against AI opponents on winding tracks. The core mechanic centers on collecting wooden planks scattered along the path and using them to construct bridge shortcuts across open water.
Success depends on risk management and spatial awareness. Taking a direct route over the water saves time, but running out of planks mid-shortcut means falling into the sea and losing your lead. Players must decide when to stick to the track to gather more planks and when to branch off for a shortcut.
Controls
- Mouse / Touch and Drag: Hold and drag left or right to steer your character.
- Keyboard: Use the Left and Right Arrow keys (or A and D keys) to guide your runner.
- Bridge Building: Automatic; your character will start laying planks as soon as you step off the main track.
Tips for Winning
- Watch Your Stack: Make sure you have a tall stack of planks before attempting long shortcuts. Look at the distance to the next landmass to judge if your pile is sufficient.
- Steal from Opponents: You can run behind players to collect planks they might miss, or even run on bridges they have already built to save your own planks.
- Check the Leaderboard: Keep an eye on where your opponents are. If someone is taking a massive shortcut, you may need to take a risky path to catch up.
- Upgrade Your Runner: Use the coins earned from races to upgrade your starting speed or increase the value of collected planks, making it easier to dominate later levels.
With its blend of fast decision-making and simple controls, Shortcut Race offers quick, engaging rounds of competitive platform racing.
