About Dice Wars

Dice Wars is a minimalist, fast-paced turn-based strategy game where players compete to conquer a randomly generated map of hexagonal territories. Inspired by classic area-control board games like Risk, the game focuses entirely on tactical positioning and the luck of the roll. Players begin the game with a handful of territories, each containing a pile of dice that represent their defending and attacking army strength.

Every turn presents opportunities to expand your empire by invading neighboring enemy tiles. To attack, players select a territory they own with at least two dice and target an adjacent enemy hex. Combat is determined by a simple dice roll: both sides roll all their dice, and the player with the highest pip total wins the tile. At the end of a turn, reinforcements are distributed based on the player's largest contiguous territory, keeping the balance of power constantly shifting as empires rise and fall.

Controls

  • Select Territory: Left Mouse Click on your owned territory (must have 2 or more dice)
  • Attack: Left Mouse Click on an adjacent enemy territory after selecting your own
  • End Turn: Click the "End Turn" button on the screen to pass play to the next faction

Tips

  • Focus on Contiguous Borders: Reinforcements at the end of your turn are calculated based on your largest connected region of territories. Connecting split regions should be a high priority to maximize your incoming dice.
  • Watch for Counter-Attacks: Do not leave your front lines thin. If you attack and win, all but one of your attacking dice move to the new territory, which might leave your previous tile vulnerable to immediate invasion.
  • Check Enemy Dice Counts: Avoid attacking territories with high dice counts unless you have a substantial numbers advantage. Even with good luck, a defender with many dice is very difficult to overcome.
