About Jump and Hover

Jump and Hover is a physics-inspired puzzle platformer where timing and resource management are just as important as quick reflexes. Developed by Robert Alvarez, the game puts you in control of a small cube navigating increasingly complex single-screen levels filled with hazards. Your goal is simple: reach the glowing exit portal on the side of the stage. However, a floor lined with spikes and floating obstacles stands in your way, requiring you to make precise jumps to survive.

What makes the journey challenging is the hover mechanic. When jumping, you can float in mid-air to clear long gaps or wait for moving hazards to pass. Floating drains your limited hover energy bar, which depletes rapidly. To recharge your ability, you must land on a solid surface or collect batteries floating in the air. This turns each stage into a tactical puzzle where you must map out your jumps, track your energy level, and find the safest path to the exit portal.

Controls

  • Move Left / Right: A / D or Left / Right Arrow keys
  • Jump: W, Up Arrow, or Space bar
  • Hover: Hold W, Up Arrow, or Space bar while in mid-air
  • Reset Level: R
  • Back to Menu: Esc or B

Tips

  • Tap to hover: Do not hold down the hover button unnecessarily. Short, controlled bursts of hovering conserve your energy bar, giving you more flexibility for micro-adjustments in mid-air.
  • Plan for gravity: Gravity still affects your descent while hovering, causing you to glide downward slowly. Factor this gradual drop into your pathing, especially when aiming for narrow gaps or small platforms.
  • Grab batteries mid-glide: Batteries instantly top off your hover energy. You can grab them while hovering to extend your flight distance across otherwise impassable spike pits.
  • Observe before moving: Since there is no timer on the levels, take a moment at the start of each stage to plan your route and note the location of batteries and landing zones.

Jump and Hover FAQ

How do you recharge the hover energy in the game?
You can recharge your hover energy by landing on any solid flat platform or by touching the floating green batteries found throughout the levels.
Who developed Jump and Hover?
Jump and Hover was developed by Robert Alvarez (also known as rob1221), a popular creator of browser-based puzzle platformers.
Is there a limit to how long you can hover?
Yes, hovering consumes energy from your hover bar. Once the bar is depleted, you will fall. Conserve energy by hovering in short, controlled taps.
