Square Bird Game

Square Bird is a one-button arcade game about staying alive by building your own way up. Your square-bodied bird sits at ground level as the screen scrolls forward, and every click drops an egg beneath it, stacking a little egg tower that lifts the bird higher. Time it right and you rise clear of spikes and gaps; mistime it and you clip an obstacle and the run ends.

The skill is entirely in the timing of a single input: lay eggs too early and you waste height you'll need later, too late and you slam into whatever is ahead. Landing eggs perfectly three times in a row triggers Fever Mode, where the bird starts shooting blocks forward to blast through obstacles instead of just climbing over them, which is the easiest way to rack up a high score before the pace picks back up.

Controls

Press the spacebar or click the left mouse button to lay an egg and lift the bird. On touch devices, tap the screen to do the same.

Tips

• Aim for perfect landings rather than just surviving ones — three in a row is what starts Fever Mode.
• Don't stack eggs when you don't need the height; save clicks for when an obstacle is actually coming.
• Once Fever Mode is active, keep clicking through it — the shooting only lasts while you keep landing well.

It plays in short, quick-restart sessions, which suits it well to a few spare minutes between things.
