About Square Meal

Square Meal is a co-op puzzle game from Nitrome, originally released as a Flash title in 2007 and now playable in the browser as an HTML5 remake. You control a troll dropped into a small dungeon room, and the goal across all 50 levels is the same: clear out every enemy before moving on.

Blocks scattered around each room are your only weapon — pick one up, spit it at a monster to knock it out, then eat the stunned enemy to clear it. A second player can join at any time and work the same room together, splitting up to cover more ground or teaming up on tougher enemies.

Controls

Player 1 moves with the Arrow Keys and uses Space to grab, spit and eat. Player 2 moves with W, A, S and D and uses Control for the same actions — the two schemes sit on opposite sides of the keyboard so both players can play at once.

Tips

  • Spit a block at an enemy from a distance to stun it before it reaches you, rather than fighting it up close.
  • Eat a stunned enemy quickly — it wakes back up if you leave it too long.
  • In two-player, split up to opposite sides of the room instead of chasing the same enemy, so you clear it faster.

It's a short, room-sized level format that suits a quick solo run or a couch co-op session with a second player.
