Tic Tac Toe (Proxy) Game

Tic Tac Toe is the classic pen-and-paper grid game, rebuilt here as a quick browser round. Pick a board, take turns placing your mark, and try to line up three (or more, on the bigger boards) before your opponent does. It plays out in seconds, which makes it easy to squeeze in between things or run back for a rematch.

Start by choosing 1 Player, which pits you against the computer, or 2 Player for a local match against someone sitting next to you sharing the same screen. Either way you then pick a board size: the traditional 3x3, or the larger 5x5 and 7x7 grids, which need a longer unbroken line to win and turn the game into more of a spatial puzzle than a quick guess.

Controls

Everything is mouse-driven: click an empty square to place your mark there. There are no keyboard controls.

Tips

• On the 3x3 board, taking the center square first gives you the most possible winning lines.
• On 5x5 and 7x7, focus on building two potential winning lines at once — your opponent can only block one per turn.
• Watch the edges of the larger boards; it's easy to concentrate on the center and miss a line forming along a side.

In 1 Player mode your wins, draws and losses are tallied as you play, so it's worth trying all three board sizes to see which one you're strongest at.
