Doodle Champion Island is an unexpectedly massive, 16-bit style RPG created by Google to celebrate the Tokyo games. You play as Lucky the Calico Ninja Cat, who arrives on a vibrant island populated by characters from Japanese folklore. What starts as a simple collection of sports mini-games quickly unfolds into a sprawling adventure complete with a hub world, side quests, and a global leaderboard.
To win, you must defeat the island's legendary champions in seven different events: Table Tennis, Skateboarding, Archery, Rugby, Artistic Swimming, Climbing, and Marathon. Defeating a champion earns you a Sacred Scroll, but the real charm is in exploring the island, finding hidden areas, and helping out the various NPCs with their own unique problems.
Controls
- Arrow Keys or WASD: Move Lucky around the island and during mini-games
- Spacebar: Interact with characters, swing your racket, shoot arrows, or jump
Tips
- Pick a team: Early on, you will be asked to join one of four teams (Red, Blue, Yellow, or Green). While the global competition is over, you still get to represent your mascot!
- Explore for side quests: The main seven events are just the beginning. Talk to everyone you see—many NPCs have hidden quests that unlock harder versions of the mini-games or special trophies.
- Check the trophy room: In the center of the island, there is a large pavilion. This room tracks all of your achievements and side quest completions, making it easy to see what you might have missed.
