About Super Mario

Super Mario is a faithful browser recreation of the genre-defining 1985 platformer that introduced the world to the Mushroom Kingdom. You control Mario as he sets out across eight distinct worlds to rescue Princess Toadstool from Bowser, navigating a gauntlet of bottomless pits, warp pipes, and iconic enemies like Goombas and Koopa Troopas.

The core gameplay is a masterclass in momentum and precision platforming. You start small and vulnerable, but collecting a Super Mushroom makes you twice as large and lets you shatter brick blocks. A Fire Flower grants the ability to toss bouncing fireballs, while grabbing a Super Star makes you temporarily invincible. Every level is a race against the clock, ending with a leap toward a flagpole to maximize your score.

Controls

  • Move: Left and Right Arrow Keys
  • Crouch / Enter Pipe: Down Arrow Key
  • Jump: Spacebar or X
  • Run / Shoot Fireball: Hold Z or Shift

Tips

  • Use the run button for long jumps: Holding the run button builds momentum, which is absolutely required to clear the wider gaps found in later worlds.
  • Kick shells carefully: When you jump on a Koopa Troopa, it retreats into its shell. You can kick this shell to bowl over enemies, but it can easily bounce off a pipe and slide back to hit you.
  • Look for invisible blocks: Many levels hide 1-Up mushrooms in invisible blocks that only reveal themselves when hit from below. Try jumping in empty spaces above platforms if a section looks suspiciously bare.
