Duck Hunt is a browser recreation of Nintendo's 1984 NES light-gun classic, rebuilt for mouse and keyboard instead of the original Zapper. Ducks burst out of the reeds and cross the sky in short, unpredictable arcs, and you have a limited number of shots to bring each one down before it flies off the top of the screen.
The pace is simple but unforgiving: a duck that changes direction right after appearing will burn a wasted shot if you fire too early, and rounds get tighter the longer you last. Miss enough birds in a round and the dog pops up between rounds to laugh at you — still the most recognizable troll in early video game history.
Controls
- Aim: move the mouse to move the crosshair.
- Fire: left-click.
Tips
- Lead the duck, don't chase it. Aim slightly ahead of its flight path rather than directly at it, especially once it's moving fast.
- Wait a beat after it appears. Ducks often jerk in a new direction right after leaving the grass — firing on that first frame usually wastes a shot.
- Ration your shots. You don't get unlimited ammo per round, so don't fire out of panic at a duck that's already out of a clean angle.
It's a short, sharp reflex game — good for a five-minute break rather than a long session, and satisfying precisely because there's nothing to it but your aim.
