Fireboy and Watergirl 4: Crystal Temple is the fourth entry in Oslo Albet's cooperative puzzle-platformer series, and the one that introduces teleportation portals to the formula. You guide both elemental heroes at once — alone on one keyboard or split with a second player — through a temple built around each character's opposite weakness: Fireboy walks straight through lava but dies the instant he touches water or the green goo pools, while Watergirl swims safely through water but is destroyed by fire or that same green goo.
The portals are the real twist over the earlier games. Step into one and you're carried to its linked partner, which is marked by matching colored lights and has a white side and a black side — enter the white side and you exit the white side of the paired portal, and the same goes for black. Some portals are only active once a button is pressed or a switch is flipped, so getting both characters through a room often means one of them triggers the way for the .
Controls
- Fireboy: Arrow keys to move and jump
- Watergirl: W, A, D to move and jump
Tips
- Fireboy collects red gems and Watergirl collects blue ones — you don't need every gem to finish a level, only to grade well on it.
- Watch the portal lights before stepping in. Matching colors tell you where you're about to land; guessing wrong usually means backtracking.
- On levels with a button or switch, send whichever character isn't blocked by the hazard ahead to trigger it first.
- If you're playing solo, clear a section with one character standing still on a switch before moving the — trying to steer both through a hazard at once is where most deaths happen.
