Jumpossess, a puzzle-platformer from solo developer Robert Alvarez (also behind Two Button Bounce and Return Portal), puts you in control of a small black demon that walks and jumps on its own just fine — except the jump is short, only a couple of blocks high, with no way to power it up directly.
What you can do instead is possess. Walk into another character and take them over, borrowing whatever they're capable of — a higher jump, the strength to push a box — for as long as that body survives. Your demon form stays immune to the black spikes scattered through each level, so the puzzle isn't really about avoiding every hazard; it's about working out which character's ability gets you past a specific obstacle, and in what order to hop between bodies to chain your way to the exit. There are 19 levels, and the combinations you need get more involved as you go.
Controls
- Move: A/D or arrow keys
- Jump: W or up arrow
- Crouch/down: S or down arrow
- Reset level: R
- Menu: Esc
Tips
- Possessing isn't permanent — you can swap into a different nearby character whenever you're in range, so don't be afraid to backtrack if you took over the wrong body for what's ahead.
- If a section looks unsolvable with your current character, look around for one with a different ability instead of trying to force a jump that isn't there.
- Reset (R) is faster than trudging back to grab a new character if you get your current body stuck somewhere it can't escape.
