QWOP puts you in control of a sprinter named Qwop, but not the way a normal running game would. There's no single "run" button — you drive his thighs and calves directly, one muscle group at a time, and his own momentum and balance do the rest. Most runs end in a faceplant a few steps off the start line; the game's entire appeal is the slow, absurd process of learning to keep him upright.
Each keypress swings a limb, and swinging the wrong limb at the wrong moment sends Qwop crumpling into a heap, legs tangled, face in the track. A clean 100-meter run takes real timing — alternating thigh and calf presses in rhythm rather than mashing keys — and even players who've cracked the technique still wipe out from time to time. It's less a race against runners than a fight against ragdoll physics.
Controls
- Q — swing left thigh forward
- W — swing right thigh forward
- O — flex left calf
- P — flex right calf
Tips
- Press thigh and calf keys in short alternating bursts instead of holding them down — holding tips Qwop off balance almost immediately.
- Let one leg fully extend before swinging the thigh forward; rushing the next step is the most common cause of an early faceplant.
- Small, light taps control speed better than long presses — the game rewards patience over button-mashing.
- If Qwop starts leaning hard in one direction, ease off both keys for a beat rather than fighting it with more input.
It suits short, replay-heavy sessions — the kind where one more attempt always feels like it'll be the run that finally clears the full 100 meters.
