Bloons Tower Defense (often just called BTD1) is the game that started the legendary tower defense series by Ninja Kiwi. Released in the golden era of Flash games, the premise is simple but incredibly addictive: you place monkeys on a map to pop waves of balloons (bloons) before they can escape the maze.
Unlike modern iterations with countless upgrades and branching paths, BTD1 offers a pure, straightforward strategy experience. You have five basic towers at your disposal: the cheap and reliable Dart Monkey, the circular-firing Tack Shooter, the slowing Ice Tower, the explosive Bomb Tower, and the devastatingly expensive Super Monkey. Balancing your budget and tower placement is the key to surviving all 50 rounds.
Controls
The entire game is played with the mouse. Click on a tower from the right-hand menu to buy it, then click anywhere on the grass to place it. You can click on placed towers to upgrade them or sell them to recover cash.
Tips
- Location is everything: Place Tack Shooters in tight corners or loops where their 8-way spread can hit the track multiple times.
- Don't ignore the Ice Tower: While they do not pop bloons themselves, Ice Towers bunch bloons together, making Bomb Towers significantly more effective.
- Save for the Super Monkey: You will need the immense fire rate of the Super Monkey to handle the massive rushes of fast bloons in the later levels.
