Fireboy and Watergirl 5: Elements brings the classic two-player puzzle-platforming formula to its peak, spanning multiple elemental temples in a single massive adventure. You control both characters—either solo or sharing a keyboard with a friend—guiding them through puzzle rooms filled with deadly hazards, pressure plates, and intricate light beams. The core rule never changes: Fireboy can walk through lava but dies in water, Watergirl wades through water but burns in lava, and the toxic green sludge is instantly fatal to both.
Every level is an exercise in coordination rather than fast reflexes. You'll need to figure out which character needs to stand on a button to lower a bridge, who should grab the specific colored diamonds scattered around the map, and how to safely navigate them both to their respective exit doors. With temples themed around different elements, you'll constantly encounter new mechanics like slippery ice physics, teleporters, and wind currents that lift you into the air.
Controls
- Fireboy: Arrow keys to move and jump.
- Watergirl: W, A, S, D keys to move and jump.
Tips
- Move together on long stretches: If you're playing solo, get used to pressing left or right on both the WASD and Arrow keys simultaneously to save time on empty corridors.
- Look before you leap: The bottom of the screen often hides green slime pits. Take a second to survey the entire level before making your first move.
- Diamonds are optional: While collecting all the red and blue diamonds gets you a perfect rating, you can still unlock the next level just by getting both characters to the exit doors.
